From app version 1.8

Connect Syncvita to Claude, ChatGPT or other AIs

Ask an AI questions about your own Apple Health data – for example "How has my resting heart rate developed since July?". Syncvita provides an MCP server through which any AI application that supports MCP can read the data you shared in the Apple Health export: Claude, ChatGPT, developer tools such as Cursor or VS Code and also AIs running locally on your computer. The connection only allows reading and can be disconnected in the app at any time.

Requirements

  • the Syncvita app from app version 1.8 on your iPhone
  • the Apple Health export turned on in the app – the assistant only sees the data types shared there
  • an account with Claude (claude.ai) or ChatGPT (chatgpt.com) in which custom connectors or apps are available

Address of the Syncvita MCP server

https://mcp.syncvita.de/mcp

Connect Claude

  1. Open claude.ai in your browser or the Claude desktop app and go to Settings → Connectors.
  2. Choose "Add custom connector", enter "Syncvita" as the name and https://mcp.syncvita.de/mcp as the URL, and confirm with "Add".
  3. Click "Connect" on the new connector. The Syncvita sign-in page opens and shows a pairing code.
  4. Confirm the code in the Syncvita app (see "Confirm the code in the app"). The browser then returns to Claude automatically.
  5. Enable Syncvita in a chat via the tools menu and ask your question.

Claude may change the names of its menus. Whether custom connectors are available in your plan is shown in the Claude settings.

Claude Code

In Claude Code, add the server in the terminal and then sign in with the /mcp command. The pairing code appears in your browser.

claude mcp add --transport http syncvita https://mcp.syncvita.de/mcp

Connect ChatGPT

  1. Open chatgpt.com in your browser and go to Settings → Apps (or "Apps & Connectors").
  2. Under "Advanced settings", turn on developer mode if ChatGPT requires it for custom apps.
  3. Create a new app: name "Syncvita", MCP server URL https://mcp.syncvita.de/mcp, authentication "OAuth". Save with "Create".
  4. Sign in. The Syncvita sign-in page opens and shows a pairing code.
  5. Confirm the code in the Syncvita app (see "Confirm the code in the app"). The browser then returns to ChatGPT automatically.
  6. Select Syncvita in a chat and ask your question.
Note: custom apps (MCP connectors) are not enabled in every ChatGPT plan or region. In the EU in particular, the feature may not be available depending on your plan and region. The ChatGPT settings show whether your account supports it; menu names may change.

Connect other AI applications (including local ones)

Any AI application that supports remote MCP servers with sign-in (OAuth) can connect to Syncvita – for example Cursor, VS Code with GitHub Copilot or other MCP clients. The exact menus differ between applications; the flow is always the same:

  1. Add a new MCP server in your AI application: type "HTTP" or "Streamable HTTP", address https://mcp.syncvita.de/mcp.
  2. Start the sign-in. The Syncvita sign-in page opens and shows a pairing code.
  3. Confirm the code in the Syncvita app (see "Confirm the code in the app"). The app marks applications other than Claude and ChatGPT as "not verified" – only connect applications you just set up yourself.
  4. The sign-in then returns to your application automatically, and you can ask your question.

Local AIs without support for remote MCP servers

Some local AI front ends can only use MCP servers that start as a program on your computer. For them there is the free bridge "mcp-remote" (requires Node.js): add the following command to the MCP configuration of your application. On first start, the Syncvita sign-in page opens in your browser.

npx -y mcp-remote https://mcp.syncvita.de/mcp

The data stays on your computer as long as the AI model also runs locally. If your application uses a model in the cloud, the retrieved data goes to its provider.

Confirm the code in the app

The sign-in page shows a pairing code in the format K7QM-2MXP. It is valid for 10 minutes and can only be used once.

  1. Open the Syncvita app, tap "AI assistants" in the settings and then "Connect AI assistant".
  2. Enter the pairing code shown on the sign-in page.
  3. Check the application, its sign-in address and the data types, read the privacy notes and tick the box for your consent.
  4. Tap "Confirm and connect". The sign-in page in your browser detects the confirmation and takes you back to the assistant.

What the assistant can retrieve

The assistant uses five tools, all of which only read. It only sees the data types you shared in the Apple Health export.

Tools of the Syncvita MCP server
Tool Returns
list_metrics the shared data types with unit, number of values and first and last date
get_summary totals or minimum, maximum and average per day (up to 366 days), per week or per month (up to five years)
get_samples individual measurements with time and source for up to 31 days, blood pressure as a pair of systolic and diastolic values
get_sleep sleep per night with the duration of the sleep stages for up to 92 nights
list_workouts workouts with type, duration, energy, distance and heart rate for up to 366 days

Example questions

  • How has my resting heart rate developed since July?
  • How many steps did I walk per day on average in September?
  • How long was I in deep sleep each night last week?
  • Which workouts did I do in the last 30 days, and how long were they?

Privacy and disconnecting

Retrieved data goes to the AI application you connected or its provider (Anthropic for Claude, OpenAI for ChatGPT). The provider processes it as an independent controller, depending on the provider also in the USA; with a purely local AI it stays on your device. Whether your conversations are used for training depends on your settings with the provider.

You can end a connection at any time in the app under "AI assistants" with "Disconnect"; the access becomes invalid immediately. If you end the Apple Health export, all connections are disconnected automatically.

If something does not work

The app says the code is invalid.
The pairing code is valid for 10 minutes and can only be used once. Restart the connection in the assistant to get a new code.
The app says the export is not active.
A connection is only possible with the Apple Health export turned on. Turn it on in the app and then restart the connection.
The assistant cannot find a data type.
It only sees the data types you shared in the Apple Health export. Add the type in the app under "Change data types"; after the next upload it is available without a new connection.
The assistant says it is no longer signed in.
The connection was disconnected in the app, the Apple Health export was ended, or the connection was not used for 30 days and has expired. Connect Syncvita again in the assistant.
